When you take your trip to Crimea, you will be in the
territory of
Ukraine, the largest eastern European country. It is washed by the
waters of the Black Sea, and its landscapes combine the wilderness of
endless steppes with the calm beauty of old mountains.
Why is this place good for spring?
That's a good question, and I do have the answer. First of all, spring
is the season when the peninsula is not overfilled with tourists, as it
is usually in summer. Secondly, if you take your trip to Crimea in the
spring you will see it is the time when all the flora of the Crimea's
vast steppes and magnificent mountains is awakening after winter.
Fields of crocuses, primroses, snowdrops, red poppies, white
narcissuses, magnolias, and jasmine to name a few, are waiting for a
visitor to enjoy.
But that's not everything. Have you ever seen a real palace of a
Russian count? Believe, me, that's something worth seeing. Count
Vorontsov's palace in Alupka is unbelievable. Built in the
first half
of the 19th century, this masterpiece of architecture and landscape
design, which combines gothic, Arabic, and renaissance motifs, is sure
to astonish anyone.
However, one of my favorite places to go on a trip to Crimea has become
the park that surrounds the palace. More than 200 sorts of trees and
bushes from all over the world flourish on the hills of this
artificially created forest. Walking along the paths of the park, you
can find a great variety of beautiful spots: streams, fountains, small
lakes with swans, and even a Chaos!
The Chaos is a special thing: hundreds of boulders cover an area equal
to, probably, half of a football field. This part of the park is like a
landscape from another planet. And, imagine: they made this all
artificially!
Another thing I really loved about taking a trip to Crimea is
its
wineries. The ones in Koktebel and Masandra are the most famous.
Masandra, however, has conquered my heart forever. Connesieurs of sweet
wine are sure to consider Masandra a heaven. An excursion through the
winery and its wine cellars opens the beautiful architecture of the
place, and informs you on how they make their outstanding ordinary and
collectible wines. The degustation of wine after the excursion is sure
to make you buy a dozen of bottles, as a minimum, to take home. Though
I have tasted different sorts of wine from all over the world, I found
nothing better among the desert wines - it's unique.
So, taking a trip to Crimea in the spring is sure to please any kind of
a tourist. Some will enjoy the incredible spring nature, others, I'm
sure, will prefer sightseeing, but everyone will definitely love this
beautiful land of flowers and wineries, which for years served as a
resort for Russian and Eastern-European elite. Tsars of the Russian
empire and rulers of the Soviet Union used to own mansions on the
beautiful shores of the Crimean peninsula. This land has always been
one of the favorite places of European elite to rest. Now, we have such
an opportunity too!
