North Myrtle Beach, Camping at its Best

By Stephanie Davis

North Myrtle Beach Camping — If one is looking for a unique do-it-yourself vacation then I would highly recommend visiting the Apache Family Campground in North Myrtle Beach South Carolina. This is a great place to visit if one does not like the typical hassles of resorts and hotels. My family used to visit this campground every year from the time I was five years old until I was a teenager in high school. When people generally take a beach vacation they stay in a hotel or similar other accommodations, camping at the beach while not a new phenomenon is generally not common knowledge to the typical beach goer.

Apache Family Campground has been hosting families for over 35 years and offers campsites on the beach and in wooded shaded areas. Guests have a choice of either taking their RVs if they want to enjoy a more comfortable stay or pitching a tent if they desire a more primitive stay. As a child my family would take a camper and stay in the wooded area where we would have the shade to protect us from the sun. Instead of going out to restaurants to eat we would cook our own meals and often would barbecue with our new neighbors for the week. Every camp site features a picnic table to eat outdoors as well as access to water and electric hookups. Campers who want to stay in tents have access to bathroom and shower facilities in sex-segregated bath houses that are situated at various places around the campground.

The campground offers visitors a few amenities for those who are looking to amuse themselves. The biggest and most well known attraction is the longest fishing pier on the east coast. When one is at North Myrtle Beach camping, one can fish, enjoy the nightly family friendly entertainment or simply walk enjoying the ocean breeze. An arcade and restaurant are often located near the pier. One of my fondest memories is going with my grandmother to play ski ball and then go walking on the pier at night before retiring for the night. An outdoor is also opened during warm months and it was in this pool that I learned how to swim. A playground and tether ball court are located within walking distance to the pool. Across from the pool is a laundromat and general store where one can do their laundry and buy provisions if they need too. The beach of course is the main reason that campers choose to visit an ocean front campground and needs no further explanation.

If one chooses to do their North Myrtle Beach camping at Apache Family Campground they can expect privacy and relaxation, along with meeting different people from all around the country. Many life long lasting friendships have been formed by fellow campers. It is also more economical as one can prepare their own meals and the rates in the spring are lower than in the summer and those who appreciate a more temperate climate will find this to be the ideal time of year to visit. In this economy when dollars must be stretched, this is a good alternative to the traditional beach vacations.
