Father Son Bonding

There are as many different ways to have meaningful father son bonding as there are fathers and sons.  When it comes to strengthening the relationships between family members the most important thing is to find something to do together that is meaningful to both of you or that you are interested in sharing with one another and then going out and doing it.  It can be anything that you will both enjoy together and that will allow you to create memories and share happy times together.  See what sort of Father-Son vacations visitors to our site have taken!

When I was in high school, my father was doing a lot of work that took him away from home.  A couple of times he took me and my sister with him on his business trips and I still remember the trips I took with him very clearly.  Once, he took me with him to L.A. and while he was in meetings I was able to amuse myself playing on the computer and reading.  He took on day off to go explore at Universal Studios with me, and he made it a point to do dinner with me every evening somewhere special, just the two of us.  Father Son bonding doesn't need to be fancy.

Another time I went with him to Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.  We didn't do much that was fancy and touristy, but I felt really special just getting the chance to take a trip to a place that I had never been before with my Dad.  It also helped me understand a little bit more about what were the places that my dad was going to when he was working and what his days were like when I had to stay back at home and he was on another business trip.

Father Son Fishing

Of course, even if there are no hard and fast rules for father son bonding, there are some classic types of trips that fathers and sons gravitate towards for their bonding times.  Father son fishing is an excellent way to spend some time together, get outdoors and even get to know eachother a little bit.

After my first year of college, my dad and I took a father son fishing trip up to Hatchet Lake Lodge in Saskatchewan.  It was an amazing experience in the Canadian wilderness, we spent the whole day together out on the water, and even caught some pretty amazing fish.  And yes, I've got pictures to back up those claims.

Father Son Camping

Even if you don't want to drown any worms, getting out in the woods is a classic favorite for father son bonding.  At it's most basic, camping gets you both out of your daily routines and away from your cell phones, computers and other distractions so you can just sit by the campfire, have a beer or two and shoot the breeze.  For more hardcore camping enthusiasts that are more into intense back country experiences a father son camping trip encourages you to count on one another and strengthen your relationship.

Father Son Bonding

Whatever you decide to do, taking a trip with your father or son (this counts for in-laws too!) is an incredible opportunity to build up a relationship that can weather any challenge.  Father son bonding counts, more than anything on the two of you being open to the opportunity to grow closer to each other.  Go find something that truly speaks to you both and go do it!
